Juan Matos Capote (1966, Santa Cruz de la Palma) is a sound and visual artist based in Barcelona, Spain. As a musician, he is an improviser and composer. He plays his own scratch built and modified electronic devices (radios, oscillators, toys, etc.). Many of his circuits are characterized by a random, yet controllable behavior. He studied techniques of Circuit Bending with the pioneer Reed Ghazala in Ohio, United States, and techniques of Deep Listening with Pauline Oliveros, Ione and Heloise Gold. He teaches regularly Circuit Bending workshops. He has performed at different festivals such as: Dis-play Transmediale 2011 (Berlin, Germany), Sónar 2010 (MACBA), Storung 5.0 and 6.0 (La Farinera del Clot, Barcelona), Ciclo Hum 2010 (El Off, Barcelona), Gargall 2009 and 2010 (Manresa), Tune (Outside))) 2007 (Free103point9 Transmission Arts Center, Acra, New York), Cap Sembrat 2008 (Sala Apolo, Barcelona), etc. He is also one half of Árum (circuit bending - amplified objects duo with artist Lali Barrière) and Monolith (circuit bending - electro acoustic duo with artist Alfredo Costa Monteiro). For Altái, his new release, he used fabricated oscillators and a modified AM radio in the three pieces. |
